A Mature Vision of A Premature Memory
The poor are always very wonderful people. These two sisters that I picked up from the street during the journey were in the most terrible condition that I have ever met before.
The arrow pointing at the baby girl on the crumpled cardboard read: 60 bucks. Attached to the cardboard was a baby girl no more than 3 years old I supposed. The elder sister’s face was expressionless, answering to a couple who approached and bargained for the price, “I really don’t want to sell her, but I need money for my sick mother and another 4 starving sisters.”
So I have decided to give them a hand all that my love can do. I don’t think I’ll ever really know what came over me at that second that inspired me to take the next action, but I just knew I had to do it for them!
"Would you wait for me for a few minutes sweetheart?” I asked the elder sister. She nodded her head and smiled. I turned around to the couple and said to them, “I’m getting them with 100 bucks!” Leaving the couple in a shock, I handed the elder sister in hand with another thirty dollars that was left in my purse, hoping I wouldn’t hurt her pride further, “Please, use this to buy your family something to eat.”
She took hold of my hand, unable to look me in the face, as she said the humble words of “Thank you”. I noticed there was a beautiful smile on her face, just like an angel. Yes, an angel! That have to bear with the bitterness of her life without blaming anybody, without complaining anything, even she is homeless, unloved and uncared for.
For once, I would have asked myself, what would I do if I would in her place? I would have claimed that I am hungry, I am in pain, I need help, or something more, from the social workers. But who will actually notice her yelling of pain? Who can actually deliver the aids to her? From then I realized that poverty is so full of hurt and so unbearable!
Back to the reality now, I always greet people (even the unknowns) with a smile, for love always begins with a simple smile, and with love, together we can build a brighter future, for our own and for those who need help!
